Amanda Whichard is a mental health therapist serving adults and adolescents in the Knoxville, TN area in person or through telehealth. Amanda is licensed in Tennessee as a licensed professional counselor (LPC), with the additional designation of being a mental health service provider (MHSP).

Amanda enjoys working with a wide variety of individuals and families who might be navigating some difficult transitions, or who might be realizing that they need to step into some changes in their lives. One of Amanda's favorite expressions is that "It’s never too late to make a change." And this is a motto that she has truly lived out through the different parts of her own journey that have taken her through her childhood in Texas, to a West Coast based career in advertising and digital marketing, to starting a new career as a mental health professional in the Gulf Coast South, to her latest adventure as an enthusiastic transplant to the mountains of East Tennessee.

Amanda brings a passion for working with those who have experienced traumas, suffer from anxiety, are in the middle of life transitions, and/or are working through their mental health wellbeing in the context of work and career.

Are you struggling from transitions in life? Feeling the heaviness of the world today? Ready to face past traumas? Maybe you are struggling with questions like “who am I?” or “What’s my purpose?” Or perhaps you feel stuck in your career and wondering why you see others pass you by.

Amanda focuses on meeting you where you are through an Integrative modality leveraging Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Amanda is also trained in and actively practices Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help those who feel stuck and haven’t seen progress with more traditional forms of therapy. If you would like to learn more about EMDR, you can visit the EMDR International website: About EMDR Therapy - EMDR International Association (emdria.org) . The specific therapeutic method Amanda uses is dependent based on the client and what you hope to achieve in therapy. Amanda also loves to explore issues of faith and spiritual development with those who want to include that in their therapeutic process.

Amanda started her professional career after graduating from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing. Amanda worked over a decade in the business world for Fortune 100 and 500 companies in San Francisco and Nashville.

Amanda felt a calling to retire from the business world and began the journey towards a dream she had since high school of helping people through counseling and psychotherapy. Amanda attended graduate school at William Carey University and earned her Master of Science in Counselors Education with a focus on Mental Health. Upon graduation, Amanda was presented with the Outstanding Mental Health Counseling Student Award.

In her free time, Amanda enjoys traveling, hiking with her dog, time with her church community, and practicing what she preaches through a routine yoga practice. Amanda can also be found exploring coffee shops or checking out the local art scene in Knoxville. Amanda has also enjoyed investing her time over the years with support services for women, homeless outreach, and working with Habitat for Humanity.
